Marketing and Research Manager

Position Description:This individual's primary responsibility is to translate customer insights and analytics into actionable marketing strategies and plans that drive revenue and profit for the Caribou Coffee retail stores. This individual will need to demonstrate an ability to effectively gather and analyze information to identify strategic opportunities for business growth. This individual will be required to effectively lead cross-functional teams with members of the product development and finance team, and have a good understanding of retail store operations and processes. This individual will be expected to make sound business decisions and manage day-to-day tasks in an autonomous, self-directed and independent manner.

Responsibilities Include:
Leads Execution and Analysis for All Consumer Testing

  • Leads testing strategy of consumer insight driven innovation and business building projects from development to deployment to analysis.
  • Partners with product management team in establishing pacing and sequencing of our product pipeline priorities.
  • Oversees processes to ensure that consumer, financial and operations success metrics for key project initiatives are determined prior to launch and monitored during test.
  • Has demonstrated skills in Restaurant, Retail or CPG product testing and roll-outs.
  • Handles ad hoc requests and issues rapidly, and provides excellent levels of service to our "customers" in the field organization.

Manages the Gathering, Analysis and communication of Key Customer Insights

  • Gathers insights from testing and prioritizes test results against business priorities.
  • Partners with finance to evaluate results and translate to product development and marketing specifications.
  • Manages collection of all analytic findings cross functionally and partners with cross-functional teams including finance and operations to effectively communicate key learning's to business stakeholders.

Works with Director of Brand Insights and Marketing Executive Team on Strategic Brand and Customer Developments

  • Supports Director of Brand Insights in managing the consumer testing process and finding key insights to drive business decisions.
  • Participates in strategic and annual planning processes.
  • Helps ensure customer insights and POV are used in decision-making.

Education/Training/Experience: A 4-year degree in marketing, business or related is required. An MBA is preferred. Five to seven years of experience in consumer marketing with direct experience in customer insight and analytics required. Experience in restaurant, retail or service industry with a company that has a multi-unit structure is desirable. Must have experience and understanding of research processes, analytic tools and reporting.

Should be self-motivated and take initiative. Must have ability to plan and meet deadlines. Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously all team members.

Manager - Trade and Promotion Marketing

Position Description: The Manager, Trade and Promotion Marketing is a critical member of the Commercial Sales and New Business team whose focus is to develop, guide and activate a National Consumer Marketing strategy across the various alternative channels of the Commercial business. This individual will guide the Caribou Coffee strategy into relevant and compelling portfolio value propositions and activation plans that lead to increased share of voice, number of impressions, and market share growth. This individual must understand how to effectively engage with and positively influence retailers to ensure flawless marketplace execution through the setting and subsequent implementation of specific goals and activities, with the ability to quickly course correct as market conditions warrant. This position will play a vital role in Caribou Coffee's quest for leadership of the Gourmet Coffee category segment and successful expansion into the broader market (domestic Grocery, Club, Drug, Mass, Military, Hospitality, airline, etc.).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Retailer and Wholesaler Strategy - Develop a quantitatively derived marketplace activation strategy reflecting GAME (Goals -- Activities -- Metrics -- Evaluation) framework that both supports, and is aligned with, the strategic Marketing growth plan across all segments of the business. Ensure that annual planning is linked with critical Sales and business needs so as to achieve the volume and revenue goals and objectives.
  • Consumer Marketing Value Propositions - Develop, present and sell-in customized propositions across Caribou's Grocery product portfolio that help capture share of voice and consequently share of market for Caribou Coffee's product line. The primary objective of this effort is for our key external constituents to understand how and why Caribou Coffee presents a viable and compelling business opportunity that merits the use of their resources (distribution, advertising, pricing, product placement) to meet the overall objectives.
  • Align with Customer-Specific Trade Marketing Programs - Work hand-in-hand with Commercial Sales Managers to build differentiated and on-target account programs and specific offerings for leading National Accounts. These programs should solidify Caribou's position with these important trade customers.
  • Marketplace Execution - Make certain that Caribou's growing position in Gourmet Coffee is solidified by turning flawless marketplace execution and responsiveness into a competitive advantage. Lead the tracking and interpretation of marketplace KPI measurement and analysis to make certain that Caribou has a true line of sight into the pulse of the marketplace. Effectively use this data to uncover profitable opportunities, change direction as necessary and make certain that marketing programs meet financial hurdles and pay out. Work hand in hand with the Vice President, Commercial Sales in the presentation of quarterly and ongoing state of the business updates to Executive Management, while taking ownership of field execution evaluation.
  • Channel Strategy Optimization - Provide guidance and well thought out recommendations to VP, Commercial Sales while ensuring the optimal and profitable deployment of resources across channels. Provide marketplace "eyes and ears" in order to better align -- and optimize -- the Commercial Marketing strategy and product portfolio against defined customer needs/expectations, and growth opportunities across the channels, as well as competitive gaps across the markets in which Caribou Coffee competes.
  • Marketing Communications & Activation - Working in conjunction with Commercial Sales VP and Region Managers as well as external constituents, help lead the development of relevant & compelling big ideas and hard-hitting, volume generating Consumer & Trade Marketing DSMP plans (Distribution, Shelving, Merchandising, Pricing), and provide leadership and guidance that delivers sound in-market execution. This includes creation and development of compelling and relevant Point of Sales material to enhance the brand.
  • Team Building -Work effectively and cross functionally throughout Caribou's entire organization with clear, achievable development plans, transparent accountabilities, objective evaluations and a positive and challenging working environment.

Reporting Relationships This position reports directly to the Vice President Commercial Sales & Business Development. The individual will align general marketing strategies with the Caribou brand, and will therefore interact with SVP Marketing, and Director, Caribou Coffee Brand Mktg.

Senior Staff Accountant

Position Description: The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial system inputs and outputs and ensuring accuracy of information. This person will review current processes and develop efficiencies in the month end process to expedite the close and be a key resource to our internal customers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • General Ledger
    • Prepare assigned journal entries and month end reconciliations.
    • Analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy of data and make recommendations to leaders on findings.
    • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to facilitate weekly check runs.
    • Assist Inventory Accountant with miscellaneous inventory module transactions.
    • Assist Accounts Receivable with month end activities.
  • Financial Report Distribution
    • Review distribution lists for accuracy and facilitate the email distribution of financial reports.
    • Answer questions from internal customers regarding their financial statements
    • Review financial report and provide recommendations to leadership on financial operations.
  • Lease Accounting
    • Read and understand financial detail related to property leases and advise internal leaders on lease related specifics needed to provide effective decision-making.
    • Determine specific rent calculations, e.g., straight-line rent, tenant amortization, percent rent.
    • Distribute sales reports when applicable.
    • Maintain subtenant rent system.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Prepare reporting for Financial Planning & Analysis team requests.
    • Prepare required documentation for SOX compliance.

    Education/Training/Experience: Four year accounting degree required with a minimum of 5+ years accounting experience. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel. Experience with lease accounting, Great Plains and Crystal Reports is preferred. CPA is preferred but not required.
